MHH Engineering Company, with their brand name Torqueleader, is one of Europe’s leading suppliers of torque tools and torque calibration equipment and has been for over 50 years.
Being keenly aware of the need to constantly improve and innovate in a very competitive market, MHH approached C-Cubed to design a system based on the Dataq-CF2 data acquisition card.
C-Cubed put together a working demonstration in less than a month, in time for the Cologne International Tooling exhibition in order to collect valuable marketing data. C-Cubed were then able to rapidly produce the final version of PETA which was launched as a product at an exhibition less than 6 months later. PETA (Personal Electronic torque Analyser) was an immediate hit.
The capabilities of the Pocket PC allowed MHH to display data in a far more intuitive format: (Left Picture), whilst the memory capability allowed easy access to a range of saved transducer characteristics: (Right Picture).
The real-time calculation of SPC data allows storage for later retrieval or direct printing via the inbuilt IR link. The Pocket PC’s compatibility with desktop systems allows for a direct and seamless link to Microsoft excel.
The comments of Geoff Allen, MHH’s Managing Director, neatly sum up the potential of using Pocket PCs for instrumentation solutions:
“We had been looking for some time to upgrade our existing portable instrumentation and the Pocket PC allowed us to bring a new product to market at a fraction of the time and cost of in-house development.
Also since PETA is based on the Windows operating system, with which our customers and staff are already very familiar, it is incredibly easy to use, which in turn has led to a very quick adoption of the system”.
